Choosing the Right Cover Lens Material for Electronic Displays

Every high-performance cover lens starts with the right material selection.

Polycarbonate, acrylic (PMMA) and glass each offer different characteristics in terms of optical performance, impact resistance, scratch resistance, chemical resistance and environmental durability. Surface treatments such as hard coatings, anti-glare, anti-reflective and anti-static coatings introduce further options depending on the application.


Evaluating Materials Side-by-Side

Material specifications and technical data sheets provide important information, but there is also considerable value in physically comparing materials before making a final selection.

Our material evaluation frames allow design engineers to compare different substrates and specialist surface treatments side-by-side, helping to assess optical appearance, surface finish and other practical characteristics.

Selected frames also incorporate both hard-coated and uncoated reference areas, providing a simple demonstration of the improvement in surface abrasion resistance that can be achieved with a specialist hard coating.
